Information & Quality Healthcare (IQH) operates the Tobacco Quitline, a telephone counseling, referral and information service for tobacco users of all ages. Bilingual counselors are available for Spanish speaking callers.  For callers ready to quit, a comprehensive, personalized plan is developed by trained counselors and continued follow up for up to six months after quitting helps improve success.  Support materials are mailed to all callers who are part of the program.  Tobacco Quitline services through IQH are currently offered to tobacco users in the states of Mississippi, Alabama and Kentucky.

The Tobacco Quitline in Mississippi is funded through the Department of Health with funds from the CDC.  The Tobacco Quitline is part of the National Network of Quitlines and is a charter member of the North American Quitline Consortium.  The number to call is 1-800-QUITNOW (1-800-784-8669).

The Tobacco Quitline provides a quick method for healthcare providers to refer patients for tobacco cessation.  A Patient Referral/Consent Form has been designed for easy office use.  Patients who are tobacco users may have the form completed by the healthcare provider, sign it and the form will be faxed directly to the Tobacco Quitline.  Once received, a cessation counselor will make a proactive contact with the patient.  The signed consent also allows the Tobacco Quitline to provide regular updates on the success or problems of the patient during their cessation process.  It will also allow aggregate reports on the referrals and their progress.

Employers are also interested in contracting with the Tobacco Quitline to help employees become tobacco free.  Presentations on Return on Investment for employers going tobacco free are available through the Tobacco Quitline.  At the present time, River Oaks Health Systems, Rankin Medical Center, Brentwood Behavioral Health Systems and Central Miss. Medical Center are under contract with the Tobacco Quitline.  Blue Cross/Blue Shield has contracted for services and our Tobacco Quitline is the quitline for Blue Cross/Blue Shield.
